The National Environment Management Authority and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources launched the Kenya’s Environment Action Plan (EAP) Preparation Guidelines on 31st January 2017 at KICC, Nairobi. The guidelines are a product of a participatory consultative process involving many stakeholders. The exercise was coordinated by National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) as per the provisions of EMCA cap 387.
The launch was presided over by the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Charles Sunkuli on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary Prof Judi Wakhungu.
The launch had representatives from the national institutions including key ministries departments and agencies, county executive committee members from various Counties, civil societies and members of the business community.
Addressing the gathering, the Principal Secretary reiterated the need for systematic planning in order to address the myriad environmental challenges facing the country.
The Chair of the NEMA Board of Management Mr. John Konchellah in his address urged county governments to work closely with NEMA for the betterment of the environment in the country.
NEMA Director General Prof Geoffrey Wahungu on his part asked the county governments to fast-track the process of CEAPs preparation noting that success of NEAP preparation is dependent on timely preparation of CEAPs.
“We will be ready when called upon to provide the necessary technical backstopping during the preparation of their CEAPs”, Prof Wahungu informed the County governments.
