NATIONAL ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY
INVITATION FOR PUBLIC COMMENTS
Pursuant to legal notice No. 160 of the Environmental Management and Coordination (Conservation of Biological Diversity and Resources, Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit Sharing) Regulations, 2006 the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received application for access permit for the following:
Applicant: SARA ELIZABETH HEISEL

University of Georgia
Activity: Opportunistic collection of 1,000 Fecal samples of Equus grevyi (Grevy’s zebra) and not more than 30 tissue and/or blood samples ONLY from animals that are deceased from natural causes for DNA and hormone extraction, and fecal protein analysis to genotype individual animals from Mpala ranch, Ol Jogi ranch, Samburu National Reserve, Meibae Community, WestGate, Kalama and Lewa Conservancy. As per the Material Transfer Agreement with Kenya Wildlife Service, the collected samples will be held at the University of Georgia and the information obtained will be used for academic and conservation purposes only.
